Solid tools is a set of tools that gets included with the pro version of SketchUp – it contains a number of tools designed to help you with creating interactions with solid geometry. It basically almost just runs in the background, and when you create a cut component with depth, allows you to cut openings in multiple faces. Mindsight Studios has an extension that can cut holes in walls with multiple faces, so you could cut an opening in a wall with thickness using this extension. However, the drawback to this is that this tool only works in individual faces, not faces with any depth I use it heavily though and it does work. Oh yes, there are some quirks in the layers tool, to be sure.

Then check the box for cut opening and create your component. Yes as long as you downloaded the 2017 Make installer instead of the 2017 Pro installer, it will just continue working as SketchUp Make once the Pro trial expires. You can make it a component that locks to faces on a specific axis, or to any geometry it touches. Simply draw a rectangle on a face, double click to select it and its edges, then right click to make a component. Using the component tools, you can create a component that cuts a hole in whatever face that it’s resting in. Then simply delete out the remaining geometry! This will create edges where your geometry intersects. With this method, intersect a pair of shapes, then right click and select intersect with model.

While the first option is the easiest, sometimes (like in the case of curved surfaces), the push/pull tool simply won’t work. The Recovered File is now saved in a different location than it was in previous versions of SketchUp. This file should be useful in the event of a crash. While you are actively working, by default, a Recovered file is saved every 5 minutes. After August 11, SketchUp 2017 models will no longer be available for download. Try opening your file on a heavy-duty machine and getting rid of some. Bug fix: Fixes potential errors due to background service not responding. However, when you start doing things with curved surfaces or surfaces that intersect, you can start running into problems. In the SketchUp Pro 2019.1 release, we changed the way recovery files are accessed. Doing so will reduce your file size and stop some of those SketchUp bug splats. When possible, utilize this as much as possible, as it’s the simplest. Obviously simply drawing a shape on your flat objects and push/pulling it to the back to automatically delete the face is the easiest. I am using some of his excellent components here for the purpose of seeing the overall effects of the IES lighting, instead of just using a simple room. In this tutorial, my materials have no reflections, bump etc (except for the receptacles) for quick rendering but later I will supply you hopefully with another tutorial on how to play with materials. In this tutorial, a special thanks to my friend Trang An.

ASGVIS (now owned by Chaos Group) made a tremendous leap, and I can really conclude that their newest build is much more stable and easier to use. I planned to use the same file that I used with the first tutorial, but I have decided to just model a quick one for this new tutorial. I am using here also a photometric data name 6B3_(100A19).ies that I have downloaded for free from Lithonia, or SketchUpArtists Download Section and found under Tutorial Files. Get Answers Positioning-centric information is. Previously I had used 1.48.66 in my first IES tutorial, IES Light Tutorial using V-Ray for SketchUp but there seemed to be a few little bugs with that particular updated version. Our outstanding community of passionate experts have answers to your questions. Fix: Skalp no longer interferes with SketchUp native Fog functionality.
